Press Release 10/20/26 – Village of Swanton

LET’S CLEAR UP SOME CONFUSION REGARDING THE PROPOSED REZONING!

There have been several questions and some speculation circulating regarding the proposed rezoning of recently annexed property within the Village of Swanton. We would like to clarify a few things.

❓ Is this for a data center?  NO. The proposed rezoning is not for a data center.

📍 Where is the property located?  The property is located along the railroad tracks between Hallett Avenue and Scott Road, behind Foertmeyer & Sons.

🏗️ What is being proposed?  The proposed action involves rezoning of the identified parcels from AG – Agricultural to M-2 – Heavy Industrial.

❓ Does the Village currently have Heavy Industrial zoning?  YES. The Village of Swanton already has an established industrial area with Heavy Industrial zoning, which includes businesses such as Scotdel Cushion, AquaBlok, and Swanton Welding.

The proposed rezoning would be similar to the existing industrial zoning in that area. In fact, the properties are located directly across Hallett Avenue from the existing industrial area, with Hallett Avenue essentially serving as the dividing line between the two areas.

It is important to understand that rezoning are land-use processes and do not, by themselves, constitute approval of a specific development or project.

✉️ Were adjacent property owners notified?  YES. Notification letters were mailed to adjacent property owners advising them of the proposed rezoning and upcoming public hearing. A public hearing notice has also been posted.

📅 PUBLIC HEARING  November 18, 2026, at 5:30 PM  📍 124 N. Main Street, Swanton, Ohio

We understand that residents have questions, and we encourage everyone to seek accurate information directly from the Village rather than relying on speculation.  The Village already has an established industrial presence, and this proposal involves expanding a similar zoning classification into an adjacent area.  Our goal is to keep residents informed, address concerns, and ensure transparency throughout this process.
