Wauseon Ties Delta in Boys Soccer, NWOAL Title Still Up for Grabs

https://photos.app.goo.gl/HAQyFTUxCEP1Ftnz6

The Wauseon Indians and the Delta Panthers battled to a 1-1 tie on Delta’s home pitch in a crucial NWOAL match that may have a major effect on who becomes league champion.  The Panthers and the Evergreen Vikings, who meet in the final league contest of the season, began the day with 3-0 league records.

With the tie against Wauseon, Delta drops to 3-0-1 but moves ahead of Evergreen, who lost 5-4 at Archbold and falls to 3-1.  However, the Blue Streaks’ win takes their record to 4-1 and puts them in first place.

If Delta wins their remaining two league games, they will be crowned champions.  If Evergreen wins out, they would gain at least a tie for the title with Archbold, provided the Streaks win their final league game against Bryan.

In yesterday’s Wauseon/Delta match-up, the Panthers got on the board first with a goal from Max York at the 28:06 mark of the first half.  Later in the half, at 15:39, Wauseon evened the score with a goal from Gavin Gerig.

At approximately 8:15, the Indians had a golden opportunity to take the lead when Braden Vajen was awarded a penalty kick on the Delta net with only Panther goalie Brody Roth defending.  Vajen drilled a shot to the far-right side where a fully stretched-out Roth was able to knock it down.  There was no scoring in the second half.

Evergreen Boys Rout Bryan in NWOAL Soccer

https://photos.app.goo.gl/MRuVDDWUYzBYqKAj7

The Evergreen Vikings opened their showdown with the Bryan Golden Bears with a relentless offense, scoring early and often, in route to a 5-0 dominating NWOAL victory.

Tyson Woodring put the Vikings on the board at the 33:02 mark of the first half then assisted on two Nick Rosinski goals, one at 30:39 and the other, 58 second later at 29:37.  The three-goal blitz in less than four minutes set the tone for the rest of the contest.

Evergreen continued to attack the Bryan goal, barely missing multiple chances to add to their lead and finished the half up 3-0.  There was no let-up from the Viking offense or its stingy defense in the second half as they kept the pressure on the Bears’ goal keep, virtually giving Evergreen goalie Walker Lumbrezer the night off.

Riley Dunbar drilled two shots into the net in the second half for the 5-0 final and the Vikings remained undefeated in the league with a 3-0 record and while notching their 10th win against one loss overall on the season.

Evergreen next travels to Archbold on Tuesday, September 27th at 5:00 PM to take on the perennial soccer power Blue Streaks at Spengler Field in a key league match-up.

Playing on their home court, the Lady Streaks took the first two games by scores of 25-18 and 25-14. Halfway through the third game, Swanton grabbed the momentum and won 25-21. However, Archbold regained control, breaking away from an 18-18 tie and won the game 25-21 as well as the match.

With the victory, the Blue Streaks move to 4-0 in the NWOAL and 8-1 on the season. The Bulldogs drop to 3-1 in the league and 12-2 for the year.
