With of a time of 18:28.04, Wauseon junior Ella Rhoades out ran the rest of the field of 57 runners to capture the NWOAL Girls Cross Country Individual Championship held at Swanton High School last Saturday morning.  Rhoades crossed the finish line well ahead of Delta senior Josilyn Welch (18:40.84), Patrick Henry junior Mia Amador (18:53.58), Bryan senior Kate Thormeier (19:12.99) and Bryan junior Nicolette Stickney (19:27.46) to round out the top five finishers.

The Lady Patriots of Patrick Henry took home the NWOAL Girls Cross Country Team Championship with the low score of 50 points.  They were followed by Liberty Center Lady Tigers (70), Archbold Lady Blue Streaks (76), Delta lady Panthers (91), Bryan Lady Golden Bears (117), Wauseon Lady Indians (132), Swanton Lady Bulldogs (175), Evergreen Lady Vikings (192).

The Swanton Bulldogs fell behind early and eventually dropped a 35-14 decision to the visiting Bryan Golden Bears. The loss moved the Bulldogs’ record to 0-5 in the league and 0-8 on the season. It was Bryan’s first win of the year as the Golden Bears improved to 1-4 in th NWOAL and 1-7 overall.

Swanton goes on the road next week to battle the Evergreen Vikings while Bryan returns home to face the Wauseon Indians.

Prior to the football game between the visiting Bryan Golden Bears and the Swanton Bulldogs, Swanton High School recognized its senior student-athletes from all its fall sports teams and the Bulldog Marching Band.  Below are the names of the seniors as they appear in the program.

The Swanton Lady Bulldogs JV Volleyball team easily defeated the Northwood Lady Rangers 2-0 last Wednesday evening to conclude the 2024 season.

Playing their final regular season volleyball game at home, the Swanton Lady Bulldogs defeated the visiting Northwood Lady Rangers 3-0 on Senior Night.  Following a tightly contested 25-22 win in the first game, Swanton junior Lexi Faber began the second game with 13 consecutive successful serves, leading the Lady Bulldogs to a 25-8 victory.  The final game was slightly closer with Swanton winning 25-10.

The win improves the Lady Bulldogs’ record to 18-4 on the season.  They also finished with a 6-1 league record, good for second place in the NWOAL behind the 7-0 Archbold Lady Blue Streaks.  Swanton now begins State Tournament play and is scheduled to meet the Otsego Lady Knights at Archbold High School on October 17^th at 6:00 pm in the first round of Districts.

Prior to their match with the Northwood Lady Rangers, Swanton High School recognized the five seniors on the Lady Bulldog volleyball team playing in the final home match of their high school careers.  Betty Jo Sedowski read a small bio of each senior as they were escorted across the court in front of the home crowd.

Our first senior is Isabella Bonifas.  Isabella is being escorted by Lonnie and Sarah Hall.  While at Swanton High School, Isabella has participated in volleyball and Frosh Fest.  Her future plans are to attend Owens Community College for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

Our next senior is Hanna Crouse.  Hanna is being escorted by Michelle and Joe Crouse.  While at Swanton High School, Hannah has participated in National Honor Society, Shoe Choir, Frosh Fest, and Volleyball.  Her future plans are to attend college for Nursing and later become a labor and delivery nurse.

Next up we have senior Lillyanna Valderas.  Lillyanna is being escorted by Jennifer Chapman and Jamie Valderas.  While at Swanton High School, Lillyanna has participated in National Honor Society and volleyball.  Her future plans are to become an Ultra Sound Technician.

Our next senior is Zara Wylie.  Zara is being escorted by Lisa Wylie.  While at Swanton High School, Zara has participated in volleyball and National Honor Society.  Her future plans are to attend college and major in Nursing.

Next up we have Senior Keagan Young.  Keagan is being escorted by Steve and Stacey Young.  While at Swanton High School, Keagan has participated in soccer, volleyball, track & field, National Honor Society Interact and Frosh Fest.  Her future plans are to attend college.
