It was fast and it was furious.  After holding visiting Archbold to a three and out on the first series of the game, Liberty Center scored on their second play from scrimmage and the rout was on with just 89 seconds ticked off the clock.  The quick touchdown triggered a 44-0 first half offensive explosion as the Tigers opened defense of their NWOAL football championship with a 51-0 blowout of the Blue Streaks.  Liberty Center added another touchdown in the first quarter then completely dominated quarter number two, finding the end zone four more times, five if you count the safety, for 30 more points and a running clock for the entire second half.

The win places the Tigers’ overall record at 4-0 and the league mark at 1-0.  They will entertain the Swanton Bulldogs (0-4) next week as they will celebrate Homecoming.  The Blue Streaks fall to 0-1 in the NWOAL and 2-2 on the season.  They will return home next Friday to face the Delta Panthers (4-0).

Evergreen High School Honors Hometown Hero – Tina Studenka

At home football games this season, Evergreen High School is recognizing local military veterans for their service to our country.  This past Friday, during the Vikings’ 36-6 victory over the Rossford Bulldogs, Tina Studenka, a long-time resident of Lyons, was recognized and honored by a cheering home town crowd.  Below is transcript of Tina’s introduction read to the Evergreen faithful by the public address announcer between the first and second quarters.

At this time, we would like to recognize this week’s Hometown Hero, Tina Studenka.  Tina grew up in Sylvania, Ohio where she graduated from Southview High School in 2002.  Both of her grandfathers, her father and all six of her uncles served in the military along with her two brothers who served together as United States Army Rangers.

Tina enlisted in the Army Reserve after high school and joined the Military Police.  Immediately after graduating Basic Training and the Army Advanced Individual Training (AIT), she was deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for a 12-month deployment serving in Camp Delta as a block guard.

After returning from deployment, Tina met her husband, Davey Studenka, and they married and moved to Lyons, Ohio.  She is the mother to Riley and Hayes Studenka and has lived in the Evergreen community for the last 17 years and says it is, by far, the best she has ever been part of.

Tina’s favorite military memory is her deployment to Guantanamo Bay.  Her most heartbreaking military moment was watching her brothers leave for the Army together.

Tina is passionate about photography, teamwork and uplifting others.  She values family, freedom and the American way of life.  Tina believes you should always try to leave a place better than you found it, always let your light shine, and help a stranger when you can because you ever know who you will positively affect.

Evergreen’s Quick Start Too Much for Rossford

https://photos.app.goo.gl/pWQdNkTU1c7NRATB9

Quarterback Bryce Bolger threw touchdown passes of 12 yards to Colton Robertson and 74 yards to Will Ruetz on Evergreen’s first two drives of the game and the Vikings went on to defeat the visiting Rossford Bulldogs 36-6 in a non-conference contest Friday night.  Alex Mossing converted both PATs and, in just under eight minutes of play, Evergreen held a 14-0 lead.  Later in the quarter the Bulldogs broke through with a 46-yard run into the end zone, but the Vikings blocked the extra point then held Rossford scoreless the rest of the way.

A 23-yard field goal by Mossing extended Evergreen’s lead to 17-6 and just before the half, Ruetz picked off a Rossford pass and raced 21 yards for the score and the Vikings went into the locker room with a 24-6 advantage.   In the second half, Bolger scored on a 1-yard plunge and later threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Quinten Eisel in the fourth quarter for his third scoring toss of the night for the 36-6 final.

Bolger led the Evergreen offense completing 11 of 20 passes for 229 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing 12 times for 57 yards and a score.  Robertson caught five of those passes for 102 yards and a touchdown.  Ruetz grabbed two for 87 yards and a touchdown.  The Vikings racked up 315 yards of total offense with 29:52 minutes in time of possession.  The Bulldogs had 241 yards of total offense and held the ball for 18:37 minutes.

The victory moves Evergreen’s record to 2-1 on the year.  Next Friday the Vikings travel to Patrick Henry to open the NWOAL season.
