Wauseon Defeats Delta and Swanton in Critical NWOAL Golf Tri-Match

https://photos.app.goo.gl/kYeffzjGK3TAgRsq9

The Wauseon Indians edged out both the Swanton Bulldogs and the Delta Panthers in the final regular season boys golf match on Monday afternoon at White Pines Golf Course.  The final match scores, however, were not decided until later in the week due to a protest logged by the Wauseon coaching staff against a ruling on a shot by a Swanton golfer.  After a thorough investigation, the protest was upheld, resulting in a disqualification of the Bulldog golfer for signing an inaccurate scorecard.

With the change in the final numbers, Wauseon was able to tie Swanton and Archbold with a 6-1 regular season record heading into the NWOAL Tournament on Friday morning.  Given that points scored in the regular season are added to points scored in the tournament, the final ruling had a significant impact on the order of finish for the NWOAL title.

Delta, the host of the tri-match finished with a 4-3 record.  Bulldog senior, Brady O’Shea fired a round of 40 to capture medalist honors.

This past Friday, September 12th, was recognized as Armed Forces Day.  In between the first and second quarters of the Swanton vs Liberty Center football game at David W. Hansbarger Stadium, Swanton honored one of their own, Master Sergeant Shaun Hanna.  A tribute to MSgt Hanna was read to the crowd as he stood on the field at the 50-yard line.  It read:

Tonight, we are proud to spotlight and honor Master Sergeant Shaun Hanna, a 2005 graduate of Swanton High School.  Shaun began his military career in the United States Marine Corps as a Russian linguist and went on to serve tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan, where he earned the Combat Action Ribbon.  He also completed three additional overseas deployments during his distinguished career.  Pleas join us in thanking a true Hometown Hero, Master Sergeant Shaun Hanna for his service to our country and welcoming home for his 20-year class reunion.
