On Saturday night the Swanton Bulldogs entered their non-league home game against the Leipsic Vikings with a slight overall height advantage which allowed them to control play under the basket. However, the visiting Vikings used their strength of long-range shooting and rallied past the Bulldogs late in the fourth quarter for a 67-64 victory. Swanton senior Charlie Wood dominated down low in the offensive key scoring a game-high 37 points, but it was not enough to overcome the 11 three-pointers and overall balanced Leipsic scoring.
The Bulldogs held a 17-16 lead after the first quarter with the Vikings staying close with four triples. The game remained tight as Swanton stayed on top by five, 47-42, entering the final frame. Four more three-pointers by the visitors were part of their 25 points in the fourth and just enough to come away with the win.
In addition to Wood’s 37 points, Brady O’Shea had 12, all on shots from behind the arc, and Evan Reinhard added 10. Ty Lammers scored 19 points for the Vikings. Brevin Brandt had 17 and Jayce Brecht and Travis Bejarano each dropped in nine.
The loss takes Swanton’s overall record to 7-4. They welcome in the Genoa Comets tonight in another non-league game and return to NWOAL action on Thursday when they travel to Wauseon to take on the Indians.
